Happy New Year Everyone! I can't believe 2009 is over!! It has been a very emotional and exciting Year for me. I went through the hardest things I've ever dealt with in my life, to fulfilling some of the goals I set for myself in the past! These goals consist of putting out my first Mixtape entitled "New Beginnings" to landing a few Residencies in the night life! 2009 really gave me that push that I needed to be where I am at today. It's 2010 and I'm ready to do it up even bigger this year! I have lot's of upcoming plans and projects for this year so stay tuned.

What up! What Up! I first want to apologize... I know it's been a real long time since I last posted! I've been real busy handling some other business aside from DJing. I will try to keep everyone posted on new updates as frequent as possible starting today! Other than that. I just want to announce that Beat Bros. is starting a new night at Jimmy Love's. It's going to be a more chill night than it usually is on Saturdays with a little change of sound selection. I'll be spinning all the older shit that isn't really heard as much anymore and some early 00' type ish. I still have a few more projects in the works so again, please be patient and stay tuned!!

Dillanthology Vol. 3 To Be Released In October

On October 13, Rapster Records will release the final installment of their J Dilla compilation albums with Dillanthology Vol. 3. The first two, Dillanthology Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 were both released earlier this year.

Featuring tracks with Common (“So Far To Go), Black Thought(“Reality Check”), as well as his own solo work, Dillanthology Vol. 3 follows the same path as its previous two volumes in giving listeners a taste of the superb records that Dilla made throughout his career. Jay Dee’s most recent posthumous album, Jay Stay Paid, hit stores earlier this summer.

Murs Reveals Projects With Slug, DJ Quik & 9th Wonder

"Ever since his start in the Los Angeles underground, Murs [click here] has been making noise. By working with The Living Legends, Slug [click here], DJ Quik [click here] , 9th Wonder [click here]and a slew of others, he’s allowed his fan base to grow through the years and after signing with a major label, he’s built his buzz even more. This week, Murs spoke to HipHopDX about his upcoming projects including a new Felt record, new music with 9th Wonder and a project with a pun rock band.

“Everything that I do from now on will be with somebody else,” he said of what fans can expect to from him. “A lot of people keep asking about Murs and 9th Wonder. It never went away. We never stopped doing shit. We’re going to do shit forever. So, Murs and 9th Wonder coming next year. Felt 3 coming out this year. I got a punk rock group called The Invincibles with this gang called Whole Wheat Bread coming out this year. I’ve also been working on some stuff with DJ Quik and Terrence Martin. We’re doing a whole ghetto, hood, electro, dance, sex, party record. We’ve been working on that. We’ve got a few songs knocked out. I’ve also got Varsity Blues 2, man. So, I got like 4 records coming out. I’m going to have like 10 records in the next year, man. Stay tuned because as soon as I get free from Warner Brothers, it’s going to be a party.”

Don’t think this means that he’s retiring from solo work.

“I just think that I work better like...Me and 9th Wonder, I don’t consider that a solo project because we work together. I’m going to have solo records, it’s just like...In the punk rock band, I’m the only rapper. I’m going to start making different sounds so people don’t think that Hip Hop just has to all sound the same.”

The first of many Murs projects to drop may be the upcoming Felt record, which fans can expect to hear very soon.

“We’re going to leak a song in a couple days,” he said, adding that he wants to wait before giving out information on who this album will be a tribute to. “There’s a new producer, too.”

With a goal to release ten albums in the next year, he’s got a lot on his plate.

“I’m working on some stuff with Sick Jacken [click here] hopefully and just working with whoever wants to work. You know? If you’re out there and you want to work-as long as you’re doing something in your scene, I want to bring my kids to what you’re doing and your fans to what we’re doing and we’ll just have one big party for good music.”

R.I.P Baatin of (Slum Village)

The circumstances of his death remain unknown, associates said this afternoon. Baatin's body was found this morning in the 14000 block of Anglin Street, said family friend Ty Townson.

There were no visible signs of gunshot trauma, said Townson, who was at the scene as Baatin's body was taken to the Wayne County medical examiner's office.

Funeral arrangements are not yet set. Friends and family members will gather for a public remembrance at 8 p.m. Sunday at Elements Gallery, 2125 Michigan Avenue in Detroit.

Baatin, who turned 35 in March, left Slum Village in 2002, later telling the Free Press he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia. He continued to record and play occasional solo dates before returning to the Slum fold for the group's upcoming album, "Villa Manifesto," due Sept. 22.

He was with the group for its gig at June's Rock the Bells Tour stop at DTE Energy Music Theatre, and last week performed in a video shoot for Slum's new single, "Cloud 9."

"This is just very shocking," said friend Biba Adams. "We were all hoping this would be the return of the original group."

"Baatin will be missed," Slum Village's T3 told the Free Press in a statement. "I'm glad we got a chance to work together before he passed. We lost another Slum soldier, a dear friend and a brother. He touched many lives."

Word of Baatin's passing circulated quickly this afternoon in music circles both locally and nationally, where Slum Village has long been an exalted name in underground hip-hop.

Fellow group founder James (J. Dilla) Yancey, Baatin's Pershing High School classmate, passed away in 2006.

"Deepest sympathy to the family, friends and fans of Slum Village on the passing of Baatin," said J. Dilla's mother, Maureen Yancey, in a statement. "We loved him and his kind heart and spirit will be forever be in our hearts."

Slum Village emerged in the late 1990s amid major street buzz, attracting fans of organic hip-hop and supported by acts such as A Tribe Called Quest. The group's 2000 national debut, "Fantastic Vol. 2" landed on critics' best-of lists and set the stage for Slum's highest-profile commercial release, "Trinity," two years later.

"He was a very spiritual brother," said Detroiter Khalid el-Hakim, founder of the Black History 101 Mobile Museum. "He brought a spirituality to Detroit hip-hop that you didn't see with other artists. That's what he was known for."

Baatin is survived by his son, Michael Majesty Ellis, 9; his daughter, Aura Grace Glover, 1; his parents Howard and Grace Glover; and his sister, Tina Glover, all of Detroit.

On Saturday we had a special guest come through straight out of the 805. DJ Still Wil representin' the IMMORTAL FADER FYTERS!! This night was yet another good night for SNL! It's been looking real good lately and we're gonna make sure it stays that way. I took a bunch if photos, but towards the end my camera shitted on me so I wasn't able to take anymore. Looks like it's FINALLY time for an upgrade.

The Rodec Scratchbox Mixer!!

The top panel of the Scratchbox doesn't deviate from the standard layout of most 2-channel scratch mixers. The main fader area also being home to the channel cut switches, headphone cueing fader, plus another slightly mysterious fader on the left hand side. Well, I say mysterious, but it's quite obvious in actuality. The upper left side of the Scratchbox has a small strip for channel 3, which is switchable between a mic and line input, and has 2-band eq + gain control. It's quite unique in that it lets you assign it to the main mix (using the mini-fader) or to be partially routed to the signal flow for channel 1 or 2 (i.e. so you can use the panning, FX inserts, cut switches and main faders). It has a single LED to let you know when you are hitting 0dB, and a switch for routing the signal to the headphones. Overall, it gives you that little bit of extra control, and the ability to quickly move the signal over to be manipulated by the main faders and other main channel features is really useful.

Another successful night for Social Saturdays. As usual the rooftop was packed. After observing the past few nights at Altitude, I figured out how to dodge the endless line downstairs. If it is a regular Saturday, get there by 10:30 and you should be able to walk right to the elevator. i was on broadway in another suzan lori play "topdog underdog" w/ my man jeffrey wright and directed by my other man george C. "big daddy" wolfe in 2002. the play won the pulitzer prize that year. we performed it in london the following year. im proud to have been apart of it. ive done work in film and television as well w/ folks like bill cosby and the late great nell carter to name a few.

Ok, I know it's been a hot one since i last blogged. There's just been so much going on in my life right now. So going back to this past weekend. Like I mentioned before gaslamp has been picking up a little over the past few weekends. I spun at Jimmy Love's as usual on Friday, and that was another packed night in a while! Boss man was happy AGAIN!

On Saturday I had Social Saturdays @ Altitude with more special guests than anticipated. hahha, all good thought. All my DJ's killed it that night! BIG UP to JABA one, Ronchee Boomba, and Frank Fresh for holding it down! While 3/4 of the Beat Bros. were at Altitude Frantik was at SNL @ Jimmy Love's getting ish cracks!

Funny thing about that night was all the people I expected did NOT show up, and the people I didn't expect at all showed up! Weird. But none the less that was for sure the best night I've had since I started spinning there!

I recently just got interview by City Beat for my New Beginnings Mixtape, so I should have a profile as well as a review by them on one of the upcoming issues, so be on the look out. I will post up which one it is once I get a hold of the official one!

So for the first time I stayed in on a Thursday night due to a big day I had the following morning. But once Friday came it was back to work. I must say for the past 2 weekends work has been picking up really well. The boss and owner are happy which makes Fred Savage happy! : D

On Friday at Jimmy Love's I met some pretty cool Filipino girls that were actually from Chicago. Some were visiting for the first time and some just moved here. I made sure they had a good time while they were down here.

On Saturday, while everyone was at Las Vegas or at home watching the fight, I was at Gordon Biersch doing my dinner set. I was bummed out at first, but once I heard Pacquiao knocked out Hatton in the second round I didn't feel as bad. Under 8 minuets! Big up to Manny Pacquiao for representin' for the Filipinos! These niggas had just dropped they CD that Dilla did most of the beats for and they was just acting arrogant, walking around real tough and we got kind of offended by it.

Once we started talking about it, Waajeed (from Platinum Pied Pipers) was like a hype man, like, “Man, they just put their shit out, where’s yours?” We went over to Dilla’s house and it was one a them nights where everything was clickin'. Two weeks later we came with Vol. 1. They kind of inspired us by being so arrogant, so we made “Players” about them. They found out, I don’t know how…somebody told.

So last weekend was ridiculous crazy! You know it was crazy if I am now just blogging about it!! Going back to Thursday the 17th. I went to "Rama" in downtown where me and my friends ate for Jamie's B-day!. I didn't eat, but just by looking at the food, it looked BOMB! Will def. have to eat there one time. While everyone was eating I was sipping on some vodka. Here are the pic's from that night.

After dinner most of us decided to go to U-31 for Ladies Night. That was my first time there. Ish was crackin'. I knew a handful of people there, but some never seen. I didn't get a chance to take one pic. This is due to me drinking most of the night. I was amazed of the fact how drunk I was. I was just glad to be out for once without having to work/spin. Def good times. Again, sorry for no pics. Just trust me, it was crackin'!! hahaha.

On Friday I had the worst hangover ever going into work. Work was real slow in the beginning. I drank bottled water all night. I really thought we were gonna close up shop early, but we ended up getting a late night rush! damnit!! I didn't even bring my camera with me.

Saturday came, I felt a little better, but I had to make it on time to the Adidas store in downtown to rock a 4 hour set. As I was getting ready to leave I realized that I didn't bring home my headphones, needles, or vinyl from work the night before. But I didn't panic too much because I knew my bro's wouldn't mind lending me their gear for that day. Big up to my beat brothers for coming through and being there at the right time!! The Adidas store was dope. I played all kinds of genre's. Felt good to be free again! I walked out with a new jacket, shoes and discounted Sun Glasses!!

After that, I went to Frank Fresh's Pad for a few rounds of Street Fighter II HD Remix. I should have napped for an hour or 2, but I didn't so then time for work came real quick then did another 3 1/2 hours there. That was probably the most crackin' night in a while. It was so crackin' my boss let me play West Cost. For all the guest DJ's that played here for me know how big of a deal this was!! hahahaha.

So I got another night off. Apparently it's been real slow at Jimmy Love's these past Thursdays. To add to that, I pulled the plug on "GROOVE KITCHEN" Mainly because it was not how I wanted the vibe to be. It was to be more hip-hop and 90's, but some ish popped off so I was playing mostly jig's. All good though, stay tuned because a new location is in the works!

I ended up going to PB last night with some of the PQ homies. It was our first PQ outing. Very fun, though we almost got into a fight on the way back to the car! THANKS MARS!! WE hit up 2 spots. Typhoon Saloon and Buba something?? Typhoon Saloon is actually a really nice place, but it was pretty much dead. But we did take advantage of all the wells drinks! After that we went to that Buba spot, and when I got in there I saw peanuts shells all over the floor. Kinda weird but the peanuts were actually pretty good. They were SALTED...MMMMM bomb. We went through 2 baskets. Gross huh? Then we ended our night like fatty's and went to Carl's Jr.

This weekend in general was pretty far off from what I'm used to. Unlike last night it was packed at 10:30 where last night it didn't get crackin' until 12:45. For some reason I didn't take any pics. Probably because I'm getting tired of taking pics of the same areas over and over! Ah well. But I didn't come out empty handed. I decided to record most of the time. What's up Folks! Just an update on whats been going on. It was a real rough beginning of the week, but everything seems to be falling in to place. So first off, I was actually able to sleep early last night after like 2 years of going to sleep at 7am and waking up in the afternoon! It's about 9:00am right now and this is the earliest I've ever been up in years. It get's even better. After I shower, I peek at the window and see a UPS Truck! And you know what that means!! I got my New CD's!! Check em out.

Some of you may know about the whole situation on what happened, but to for those of you who don't. To make the long story short. There was a mis-communication over at the place that pressed my CD's and I was sent bad CD's. Bad meaning, not the CD I wanted to be duplicated. So I had to send them back to get re done. But all good, because I now have the right ones and are ready for the Street.

I will be dropping some off to Access in Pacific Beach before I go to Groove Kitchen, around 7ish. So if you around the area feel free top cop a copy or two!! St. Patrick's Day 2009

Ok, so this whole night just threw me off right when I into downtown. First off, I didn't know San Diego Celebrates St. Patrick's Day like that. From what I heard Irish people don't even celebrate it in Ireland! So this is pretty much how my night went. I had to park in the parking garage all the way near the Ballpark, I had to pay for parking that cost me more than usual. I went in downtown thinking I was gonna pay $3 like I usually do during the weekdays. Boy was I wrong.

Then I get into the Lounge, and it's pretty much dead. Yea it was only 10:00, but up stairs was crackin' and they have been opened since 2:00p.m! For all you people out there who haven't been to Jimmy Love's, THERE IS A DOWNSTAIRS LOUNGE! So it ends up picking up throughout the night, but I still thought it was pretty slow for the most part. At the end of the night, me and the other employee's chopped it up about some internal things going on. That's always fun. Then on my way home I made a bad move and did a quick stop at Del Taco and ordered 2 Big Steak Taco's and Mach Nacho's with Double Cheese. I'm CRAZY, I know. But it's all good because I ran that shit off today!!

Anyways, when I got home I decided to download this new software and put a video together. Oh by the way, I was recording all the way from the parking garage that I was at, all the way up till I got to work. Quality is horrible, so you don't have to watch it if you don't want to. Plus it may make you dizzy from all the shakiness! Enjoy.

Tonight was very interesting. As usual, it was nothing what i expected it to be like. To start off, when I got to downtown I ran over a glass bottle! For some reason there were glass bottles all over the street and people were running over them left and right. Unfortunately, i was one of them! Auntie at Park it & Market hooked it up with VIP parking once again.

So after parking I did my normal routine and hit up C lounge and chilled with the homie Dwayne. He made me some random drinks. If I can recall one was called a Chocolate Shot, but with no chocolate actually added, as well as some other shit that tasted exactly like Dr. Pepper, but with no real Dr. Pepper actually in it. It was pretty crazy. Then I headed to SNL at Jimmy's. Hers are a bunch of pics of how the night went.

myspace.com/djfredsavage. The CD hit's the street Thursday, March 12th. which is actually the date of the Release party. I know, cuttin' it real close.!! The release party will take place at an event called Chief Rocka that goes down every 2nd and 4th Thursdays at Red C lounge.

You can catch resident DJ's Frantik, Thumbprint, Mada & Norm Rockwell playing REAL hip hop ish all night long! Make sure you make it out on the 12th because there will be giveaways throughout the night including copies of my CD and BEAT BROS. SOUND clothing!!

For Valentines day I spent most of my day/night on the 1's and 2's. It was exhausting. Only had a few hours of sleep from the night before. From 3-5pm I spun at Adidas in Downtown and copped some fresh new gear!

Then at 6pm me and Frank Fresh rocked the Lounge at Jimmy Love's. Frank Fresh held down a killer Down-Tempo Set for 4 hours str8, then I got on at 10pm and finished the night off with the usual, Neo-Soul, Old school, 80's House, Mash ups and West Coast!!

Moving along to Mardia Gras 09. It was def not as packed as it was the last few years. Jimmy Love's was a little slow that night but was made up by a few special lady guests who were very entertaining. Two words. "Baby Bash!"

Now let's talk about how tonight went! I got to downtown around 9:30p.m. I Made sure everything was all good at Jimmy Love's. Once Frantik arrived he got the party started and had it crackin' the whole night.

I ended up going to Bondi to do a quick set with Resident DJ's Joemama and Frank Fresh. Once I got in there I decided to go through some music that I just uploaded, and all of a sudden a girl comes up and try's to look at what I was doing on my laptop! And little did I know it was my childhood friend Andrea who claims she was just in the area. I don't believe her though. This is the second gig she's come out to chill and have a drink or 2, so big up to her! It was my first time at Bondi, and let me tell you. The place is off the hook. It has a total different atmosphere once you step in. Nothing like your average San Diego Venue. We all killed it in our short amount of time on deck. If you guys are ever in the area, make sure you drop by every Saturday of the month!

Once I did my quick set I made it back to Jimmy Love's and closed it out for Frantik from 1:00a.m. - 1:30a.m After that I went to go and get some grubbage at Carls Jr.

To finally rap things up here, one last reminder about the "New Beginnings" CD Release party going down on the 12th and a special event going down at Altitude Sky Lounge on Saturday, March 21st. These are both free events all night! So make sure you make it out.

Oh, and one last thing. Every Thursday I throw an event called Groove Kitchen! It's Free All night and no dress code. It consists of a wide variety of music. And I mean a WIDE VARIETY! Friday and Saturday I'm at the same spot but in the downstairs lounge. Dj Frantik and I rotate every other Saturday. He rocks 1st and 3rd Saturdays and I rock 2nd and 4th.
